On Wednesday October 5, 2005 Mocksville Fire Department responded to an
incident involving picric acid. Engine 2201 and Hazmat 2208 arrived to
find an industrial facility that had been evacuated. Plant personnel
advised they had an unknown quantity of picric acid in an unstable form.
Plant personnel had already called a specialist for assistance.
Mocksville Fire Department set up a safe area and started product
research and weather monitoring. Davie County Emergency Management,
Mocksville Police Department and Davie County EMS assisted. The product
was neutralized and disposed of by a clean-up company. |
