On Friday October 19 Mocksville Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported structure fire at King Sash and Door. E-1 reported heavy smoke visible from about 3 miles away. E-1 arrived to find 2 large electrical transformers that had exploded and caught fire with flame impingement on one of the buildings. MFD personnel pulled an exposure line to protect the structure until Energy United arrived to ensure the transformers were de-energized. Upon confirmation the electricity was secure, the hose crew advanced and extinguished the fire. Due to the potential environmental impact from the oil in the transformers a Level “C” Hazmat entry was made and the runoff from extinguishment was contained via oil booms and pads. The scene was left with Davie Co. Emergency Management and Plant Officials.
